New details are starting to emerge about Volkswagen's Golf EV.
According to Car & Driver, the model will likely be called the E-Golf when it is launched in Europe in 2013. It is slated to ride on the MQB platform which has also been developed to accommodate a plug-in hybrid powertrain. This likely means we can expect another eco-friendly variant a few years after the E-Golf is introduced.
Additional information is limited, but the model will likely feature a powertrain that mimics the Golf blue e-motion concept. It used a lithium-ion battery and an electric motor that developed 115 PS (85 kW / 113 hp) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque. This enabled the car to hit a top speed of 140 km/h (87 mph) and travel up to 150 km (93 miles) on a single charge.
